Our Story
What Made Us The Retreat We Are Today
Hurricanes Ivan (2004) and Katrina (2005) left The Gulf Shores Beach Retreat abandoned, partially destroyed, and decaying for several years. It had open holes in the roof and the lower floor was destroyed and filled with hurricane debris, but God was not done with this place.
It took about 4 months of work to reopen the retreat in time for the summer of 2007, and the retreat immediately bore fruit. Groups who had previously stayed here returned, and new groups came in.
We have faced oil spills, hurricanes, and economic downturns, but God has been faithful through every difficulty.
In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.”
We believe that our retreat offers a place where these two commandments can be explored, understood, and put into practice.
